Blacks in Technology
Dominic, a web developer and code educator, thought that it was important to provide modern, updated black history role models to encourage more blacks to choose technology careers. He began a project to document and highlight the achievements of blacks in technology.
While Dominic had enjoyed a fruitful technology career, he quickly became discouraged at how difficult it was to find examples of visible blacks in technology beyond the handful that were regularly celebrated by the media. He found it even more frustrating that it was rare for these tech influencers to actually be coders themselves; many were entrepreneurs, educators, and community organizers.
Dominic quickly realized that he must first encourage more blacks to choose technology and provide better support for those who already had; only then would he have enough examples to reach his goals of having technology expos, conferences, and other activities that showed the world that there are blacks in technology achieving greatness at a level that exceeds the statistics.
