Please read below to learn more about the origins of SEE IT LOUS, SAY IT LOUD AND LEARN IT LOUD from the project creator.
SAY IT LOUD
While attending one of my first classes, in a room filled with 80 or so students a classmate and I were asked to stand. The professor then broadcasted that we would never become architects because of our gender and our race.
The victory of that moment was tuning out those words and the numerous nods of agreement. Later, a peer of mine advised me not to let this declaration define me nor my path. The text books only listed a singular gender and ethnicity as great architects. This significant omission in my education gave me purpose to seek out and elevate architects that not only bare resemblance but hold our communities and values as design priorities.
SEE IT LOUD
There are many languages that make up the vernacular of architecture and built environment that consequently make the profession inaccessible to the general community. We often use hyper specific technical terms and speak to the concept of the design in descriptive analogies. In realizing this, we began to try and leverage augmented reality as a tool to educate and empower as a design mechanism for the youth in the form of an app that can be easily downloaded to their mobile devices.
LEARN OUT LOUD
The SAY IT LOUD exhibition was developed to help support people like: university students and professionals, SEE IT LOUD Augmented Reality App users and teens/pre-teens. There was an obvious need to have an initiative that is focused on children all while leveraging the information and content collected by the other Beyond the Built Environment programs.
