Womanist Trilliance

Inspired by the rarely championed legacy of leadership and creativity of black women and queer folk, and seeking to shine a light on the unique challenges faced by these communities, Golden Collier began holding low or no-cost community events around the SF Bay Area with the intention of building awareness and womanist community. Hence, the birth of Womanist Trilliance. Beginning with the black grrl mixtapes, an audio collage series dedicated to exploring the wisdom and artistry of black queer future and present ancestors, Golden began connecting with other black feminist and womxn of color creator (such as SULA Collective) to continue strengthening this intention.

This momentum eventually led to the creation of Womanist Film Night, a free, curated cinema + discussion series highlighting forward thinking work that explores themes elevated by underrepresented black communities throughout the diaspora. In 2017, Womanist Trilliance also sought to increase capacity by developing workshops for the community, including Don’t Stop! Get It, Get It: A Pan-African History of Twerk and Pro-Heaux: Sex Positivity From the Ground Up.

Following the 2016 elections, Womanist Trilliance set to work creating Combahee Radio, a nutritional audio series dedicated to legacy of struggle illuminated by Harriet Tubman and The Combahee River Collective. 2017 also saw the release of The Womanist Agenda, a nourishing yearly planner tool created for activists and artists seeking organizational support in the pursuit of their wildest dreams.

Moving into 2018, Womanist Trilliance is excited to increase capacity by introducing When and Where I Enter, an interview program highlighting the work of black feminist activists in the bay area and beyond. Additionally, Womanist Trilliance will begin collaboration with various bodies of research and data sets to produce data visualizations that offer the public at large an opportunity to engage with the invaluable findings of black feminist scholars, writers, and researchers.
