AMP Awards Micro-Grants to Support Grassroots Fundraising Efforts to get to the AMC

Allied Media Projects invited the coordinators of the 14 tracks of AMC2010 to submit proposals for media projects that would support the grassroots fundraising and organizing of their tracks.  We awarded micro grants of $400 on a first come first serve basis. Check out below the awesome projects that are seeded through this process.

The New Mythos Tour

By creating a new mythos - that is, a change in the way we perceive reality, the way we see ourselves, and the ways we behave - la mestiza creates a new consciousness. The work of mestiza consciousness is to break down the subject/object duality that keeps her prisoner and to show in the flesh and through the images in her work how duality is transcended.   -Gloria Anzaldúa

The New Mythos Tour will be a documented three-week multi-city dialogue/interview/workshop project moving from the Northeast into the Southwest. As a lead-in to the AMC’s INCITE!/ To Tell You The Truth track, the New Mythos Tour will explore the new mythos (as defined above), via arts-based workshop/community dialogue sessions in eight cities.  Participants in these dialogues will explore: what is the new narrative of our time? What are the spaces that revolutionary m/others and community caregivers are straddling? How are they integrating truth-telling, spirituality and well-being into their movements? What are the many movements they are involved in and how do these intersect?  This will be an opportunity to begin this exploration while creating and distributing radical truth-telling alternative media pieces along the way.

The New Mythos Tour aims to raise $2,500.00 through co-sponsorship, sliding scale workshop participation, and distribution of materials including; the Revolutionary Mama zine,  Permission Perform zine, and the Radical Women of Color Definition of Media posters. Funds raised from this tour will support mamas and community care-givers to attend the Allied Media Conference and U.S. Social Forum in Detroit, June 17-27, 2010.
