"Unlike many of the festivals we attend, where the “youth” component is often tacked on at the beginning or end of the larger festival or where their work is showcased as a “youth side-note” to the real media discourse, the AMC allows young media makers to participate in workshops and present their own work in a larger forum that encouraged our kids to position themselves and their work amongst a larger discourse of what presenter Ricardo Rodriguez aptly referred to as “electronic disturbances”: the digital media manifestation of our right to civil disobedience as a means to social and political change. Do you get that? Our kids sure did! They shot off into different conference rooms and returned bristling with excitement and information about different political action groups and cultural movements in other cities- with business cards, flyers and pamphlets from other organizations clutched in their hands."
